Cryopen

Cryopen

If your pet has small, benign lumps or bumps on its skin, you may be unsure how to treat them. Removal surgery requires significant financial and medical considerations, and it may not be the best option for your pet. If a traditional procedure isn’t the right choice, cryotherapy can be an effective alternative.

Cryotherapy is a safe, pain-free treatment option that doesn’t require anesthesia. Animal Care Center and Pet Care Center are two of only a few veterinary facilities in the Hammond and Ponchatoula areas of Louisiana that offer cryotherapy for pets.

What Is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is the application of extreme cold to treat abnormal or diseased tissue through a freeze-thaw cycle. At Animal Care Center and Pet Care Center, our veterinarians use CryoProbes or CryoPens to remove warts, cysts, skin tags and other growths. These pen-like devices release a fine, high-pressure stream of nitrous oxide to freeze cells. They can be used to remove small skin lesions on numerous areas of your pet’s body, including:

  • Face
  • Mouth
  • Ears
  • Eyelids
  • Nose
  • Legs
  • Feet

Benefits of Cryotherapy for Pets

There are many benefits to treating your pet with cryotherapy, including:

Quick Procedure

Traditional skin lesion removal requires a scalpel and anesthesia, and the process can take several hours. With cryotherapy, your pet won’t have to be put under, and the treatment takes just a few minutes to complete. You and your pet can be in and out of the vet’s office and back to your daily routine quickly.

No Pain or Bleeding

A CryoPen does not cut the skin as a scalpel blade does, eliminating bleeding during the procedure. Because there is no incision, the affected area also won’t become inflamed. Your pet will experience a virtually pain-free procedure and quick recovery.

Versatile Application

CryoPens can be used on virtually any benign skin lesion. Whether your dog has a skin tag or your cat has warts, a CryoPen can remove the lesions quickly and effectively.

Precise Treatment

A CryoPen is an extremely precise tool. It has differently sized openings, allowing the vet to control the amount of freezing and prevent damage to healthy tissue.
