Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine. As we continually strive to offer the highest quality medicine and diagnostic testing, we are pleased to offer ultrasound services as a means of providing excellent care to our patients.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a type of imaging test to examine the internal organs of your pet by using very high frequency sound waves. Ultrasounds can help to reveal information that may not be discernable from the outside or to help us understand somethings we notice from the outside.

Ultrasounds are painless, completely safe, and an ultimately non-invasive imagining technique. Ultrasounds can be used for many things, such as, in pregnant pets, evaluating heart conditions, or to evaluate the abdominal structure. This means, your vet can look inside your pet’s body without having to perform surgery.

An abdominal ultrasound enables your vet to have a closer look at the organs in the abdominal cavity such as the liver, kidneys, stomach, spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands, intestines, bladder, uterus, ovaries, prostate, and lymph nodes. The size of organs is important because some medical conditions—such as heart, kidney, and liver disease—can alter the size of your pet’s organs. Additionally, tumors and cysts, depending on their size and location, can also sometimes be detected using ultrasounds. As you can see, ultrasounds can be used to diagnose many different things and conditions and are a vital part in some diagnoses.
